Community Bridges is seeking new a lead counselor at the Start Center!

START is an acronym for Systemic, Therapeutic, Assessment, Resources and Treatment . The individuals who benefit from START have intellectual disability and mental health conditions or challenging behavior that is negatively affecting their quality of life. The underlying philosophy of START is that services will be most effective when everyone involved in supports and treatment is allowed to participate actively in treatment planning and service decisions.

The Start Center is hiring for a START Center Lead Counselor The lead counselor is responsible for all aspects of operation of a certified/licensed residence during assigned shifts, ensuring that each person receiving services is provided supports as needed to develop and maintain one's independent living skills while preserving one's dignity and self-respect. Ensuring that DMHDS certification/licensing standards as well as agency policies and procedures are upheld throughout the delivery of services. Responsible for the management of service operations and staff supervision as assigned in shift checklist.

The opportunities are:

  • Thurs 2-11pm, Friday 2-11pm, 7am-8pm

Education: Bachelors preferred

Experience: BA with 2 years working with individuals with ID/DD and challenging behaviors and/or mental illness, OR Associates Degree with three years of working with individuals with ID/DD and challenging behaviors and/or mental illness.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct care to guests of the START Center program including assistance with personal care (bathing, personal and dental hygiene, and assistance with bathroom use) as necessary
  • Team lead responsible for assignments and ensuring all duties have been performed per the shift checklist.
  • Point person for all communication and information with staff on shift
  • Orient new Start Counselors to the milieu and the START model, using the orientation checklist
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively with program administrators
  • Assisting START guests with scheduled daily activities
  • Provide de-escalation and intervention services for guests displaying emergency behavioral health concerns
  • Assist guests accomplish their START goals and objectives
  • Assist with admission and discharge processes for respite guests to include the following: Write/delegate daily contact notes after each shift
  • Communicate with START guest's legal guardians and Center Director/Program Administrator regarding any significant events that occur during their shift.....Community Bridges advances the integration, growth and interdependence of people with disabilities in their home communities in ways that promote their ability to have positive control over the lives they have chosen for themselves.
